The National Association of Home Builders has a program for contractors, architects and occupational therapists to become Certified Aging in Place Specialists (CAPS). These professionals can collaborate together to ensure that home remodels and retrofits will maximize safety and independence as someone continues to age in their home.
Katie Holmes of Holmes Adaptations LLC is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist. Through the program, she learned how to work and collaborate with contractors, builders and architects in order to provide home modifications and retrofits for someone to age in place, or after a recent disability. The standard isn’t best for everyone, it is important to have an approach that will maximize the end goal. With a background in occupational therapy, Katie is able to guide a builder or contractor in making sure the modifications are the most appropriate for the client and their individual needs.
