Certified Aging in Place Specialist

Katie Holmes is an Occupational Therapist that has been working with the geriatric population for over 11 years in skilled rehabilitation facilities, home health, and assisted living settings. She earned her Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS) designation in 2019 and her Executive Certificate in Home Modifications (ECHM) in May, 2020. Katie is also a member of HMOTA, a Home Modification Occupational Therapy Alliance, committed to providing home accessibility to clients throughout the country.

Katie has been living in Northern VA for 6 years with her husband and dog named Woodson. In the past few years they bought an older home and are in the process of making their own modifications to it. Katie has first hand experience with the challenges that can result from living in an older home, and has knowledge of how having a disability or aging can further impact that.

“Home safety, fall risk management and home modifications have always been the aspect of Occupational Therapy that I am most passionate about. I strongly believe that one’s environment has a huge impact on their success participating in everyday activities.”

“The motion lights you installed on the stairs of our home make us feel so much safer. No more dark steps!”
